You are probably visiting this site because you are interested in buying a cordless power screwdriver, but aren’t sure if it is a good buy or a waste of money. I can tell you for certain that there is a perfect power tool out there for you that you will definitely not regret buying. How can I be so sure? Well, cordless electric screwdrivers come in all shapes and sizes – and prices. So if you feel like you only need the tool for the occasional job around the house, then a cheaper model will suit you best – such as the Black and Decker PD600. If you are the kind of person who never settles for anything but the best, then I would recommend something like the Dewalt DW920K-2, the Makita DF010DSE lithium ion driver drill, Makita TD020DSEW 7.2 volt impact screwdriver, or the Hitachi DB3DL 3.6 volt . I’m not going to go into the specifics about individual screwdrivers now since I have mentioned it numerous times in past posts. If you are interested in learning more about the PD600 or others, do a search of my site for reviews and you will find all the information you need.

After you have done all the research you need by reading reviews, and have found the best cordless power screwdriver for your needs, you still have to know where to buy it. A lot of middle aged people like me think they are pretty modern by browsing the internet for information on a product. They then make up their mind and head out to the local store with the intention of buying that product. Many times they are disappointed because the store is either out of stock or doesn’t carry it at all. Those were the good old days when you had to put in a special order for a power tool with a delivery date of 8 weeks. Don’t get me wrong – buying your cordless screwdriver from a trusted local hardware store is not the end of the world. If this makes you feel the most confident about your purchase, then by all means go ahead. However, buying cordless power tools and other products online is the way of the future (and present), it is definitely worth a shot.

If you are like me then you will probably search all over the web for the best price before buying. This can take some time and fun out of the experience so I will make this easy for you. By searching for the best price you will usually end up at the same online store every time: Amazon! Some people still think they only sell books, but meanwhile they sell virtually everything, and usually with the best price and shipping.

So, as soon as you have made your decision about which cordless power screwdriver you want to buy, head straight to Amazon.com and buy it. You will usually get your order within two days, and never look at another store again.

Here is a list of models I highly recommend:
-Dewalt DW920K-2 7.2 volt NiCad cordless Screwdriver
-Makita DF010DSE 7.2v lithium ion driver drill
-Makita TD020DSEW 7.2 volt cordless impact screwdriver
-Hitachi DB3DL 3.6 volt
-Black and Decker PD600

Ever bought a piece of furniture that you had to build yourself? Did you unpack the box and notice in horror how many screws were included? Not to mention the crummy screwdriver that was included to do the job. You undoubtedly had a few sore muscles the next day from it.

This is exactly the kind of job where a cordless power screwdriver would come in handy. But who wants to buy an expensive power tool to fasten a few screws once in a while? Luckily a small cordless electric screwdriver is not expensive and is therefore the ideal tool to have in your household. The foundation of this tool is its batteries. It defeats the purpose of using a power tool to assemble some furniture if you are hindered by cables. The rechargeable batteries in a good cordless screwdriver from Dewalt or Makita are very small and light, and last long enough to finish most jobs in a single charge. Surely some of you have tried to tackle an assembly with your huge corded drill and realized that it is just not worth the trouble. Even a cordless drill is just too heavy and powerful to make it worth using for assembling furniture and such.

Some of you might be thinking that it is not really that hard to fasten screws in a piece of furniture. This is true in situations where there is a predrilled hole- But if there isn’t and the wood is solid, you will have a much tough time. With a cordless power screwdriver you just have to press a button and let the torque of the motor do its job. If the material is even too strong for the strength of the tool, just plug in a drill bit and predrill a hole. It is that easy. All in a tool that is only slightly bigger and heavier than a manual screwdriver.

Of course a cordless power screwdriver also has a reverse button so you can remove screws just as easily. The drilling capability of a good model is also more than enough for most people’s needs. You won’t have to buy yourself an extra power tool. Therefore, I highly recommend everyone to shell out the 50 dollars for a cordless screwdriver. You will save yourself a lot of time and agony with your future Ikea purchases. Above all, it makes these kinds of inevitable tasks a whole lot more fun. I personally recommend checking out the Dewalt DW920k-2 7.2 volt cordless screwdriver, the Makita TD020DSEW 7.2v lithium ion impact driver, or the DF010DSE 7.2 volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Driver-Drill Kit with Auto-Stop Clutch. If you want to spend a bit less I suggest the Black & Decker PD600 Pivot Plus 6-Volt Nicad Cordless Screwdriver with Articulating Head or the Skil 2346-01 3.6-Volt IXO2 mini Screwdriver, which is the smallest of the bunch. It helps to look for some good reviews before making a decision about which one to buy.

Buy the right drill bits for your Dewalt or Makita cordless power screwdrivers

One thing that a lot of inexperienced power tool owners wonder about are the attachments. There are so many to choose from, but not all will fit with every tool. So before you decide to buy some expensive attachments for your cordless power screwdriver you should make sure that they will work with your tool. The Makita TD020DSEW 7.2 volt cordless screwdriver is equipped with a quick release 1/4-inch hex chuck. This is not the most common chuck and most drill bits will not work with it. This system is a lot easier to use than the standard ratcheting chuck found on most drills.
A good set from Makita is the Makita T-00153 17-Piece Impact Driver Drill Accessory Set which even comes with adapters.

Keep in mind though that every hex type drill bit will work with any hex chuck power tool, so don’t worry if you don’t buy a Makita drill bit set for your Makita cordless screwdriver – it will work. You can even buy Makita bits for your Dewalt DW920k-2. I personally own Makita bits and have not had anything to complain about so far. They’re pretty much brand new looking and I use them a lot with my cordless screwdrivers. I do not suggest you get the cheapest no name bit since you run the risk of wearing them out very quickly. It is better to spend a bit more for good quality because it will pay off in the end…trust me, I know!

So I have been using my Makita cordless screwdriver for many months now and was absolutely delighted with its quality and performance. Ever since moving into my new place I had plenty of tasks for it to handle…and it always lived up to its name. The TD020DSEW 7.2 volt was, and still is, one of the best cordless power tools I have ever purchased. Today I completely overdid it. I bought this new TV wall unit that is partly mounted to the wall. The cabinets are really big and heavy, which required some serious holes to be drilled into the wall. Without thinking I pulled out my cordless screwdriver and got to work. I held the tool to the marked spot, leaned in with my body, and powered her up. Everything was like it always was until suddenly I hit…the brick wall hidden behind the drywall!! My power screwdriver did not take this lightly and came to a loud and screaming stop, until I let go of the trigger.

The wall did not even budge. I didn’t want to believe that there was something hidden in the wall that my tool couldn’t handle so I tried it again. And the same thing happened again. Besides the drill bit getting all charred and dull, I made absolutely no progress at all. I was really upset at first, but after putting the power tool down for a while I realized that it was unreasonable for me to expect this little Makita cordless screwdriver to get into that wall. So I went back to my tool box and got my large Dewalt 18v lithium ion battery powered cordless drill to finish the job.

It turns out that this damn brick wall is so tough that not even the drill was able to get in. My drill bit was totally ruined and I progress about a quarter of an inch. I was left with no other option but to got to the hardware store to rent a nice big Makita hammer drill. It went in like a hot knife through butter…

The moral of the story is that you have to be realistic and not get overly confident with your little cordless power screwdriver. Be accepting of its limits no matter how much you think it can do any job in the world. Happy drilling.

Sorry for not posting in the last few months but things have been extremely busy for me. I have been using my great Makita cordless screwdriver quite a bit during this time. I have found that I’ve been using this power tool more and more, and my other tools have been staying in the toolbox. This is because cordless screwdrivers are very versatile tools that aren’t a hassle to carry around. Think of all the times you have used your cordless drill; you always think about whether or not you actually need it. You wont take it with you if there is only a slight chance that you will need it. This is because it is a pretty large and heavy tool. The cordless screwdriver however is to so small and light that you can carry it around with you all the time without being a hassle. My drill only comes with me when I know that the job is too demanding for my little screwdriver…but otherwise it stays at home or in my trunk. So far, I have never been let down by my little Makita.

Have I intrigued you about cordless screwdrivers? You might be wondering what the best cordless screwdrivers on the market are. Is there a huge difference between Dewalt and Makita, or even models from Black and Decker. The answer is yes, there are huge differences between some of these models that you should be aware of. First of all, you should be concerned about power. There are some cordless power screwdrivers that lack power and are therefore limited in usability. When selecting a cheaper brand such as Black and Decker or Skil you want to watch out for this. The second most important thing to look out for is build quality. There are many cheap power tools out there that cheap for a very good reason. These will work for the occasional household user but that’s it.

In the end of the day you are left with a small group of cordless screwdrivers from Dewalt and Makita, maybe even one or two from Black and Decker, Skil, Milwaukee etc. After reading a few of the best cordless screwdriver reviews you will probably narrow your selection to the Dewalt DW920K-2 7.2 volt, the Makita DF010DSE 7.2 volt lithium ion, or the Makita TD020DSEW 7.2 volt cordless impact screwdriver with lithium ion batteries. This is because they have the most power, the most features, and the best build quality. Which one is right for you is only for you to determine. Go to the store and play around with them. Compare the specs and make a decision. Either way you will not regret your purchase.

I have been doing a lot of work on my house lately and my Makita cordless screwdriver has come in extremely handy. I honestly do not know how I could have done it without this amazing tool. I own the Makita TD020DSEW cordless impact screwdriver with lithium ion batteries. The reason I chose this model instead of the Dewalt DW920K-2 or the Makita DF010DSE is quite simply bang for my buck. They are the three models that I would consider the best in the industry, each with their pros and cons, but I will explain why I made my choice.

The Dewalt DW920K-2 7.2 volt cordless screwdriver is, in my opinion, the most heavy-duty out of the three, but is also the bulkiest. If this is a drawback for you should depend on the kind of applications you use it for. I got a cordless screwdriver because I need a small “drill” to assemble furniture and drill holes for hanging pictures and stuff. I don’t want to deal with bulk and weight for these kinds of things. When I have bigger jobs that require a lot more power I use a standard drill. If you are the king of person that wants only one cordless power tool, then the Dewalt is a definite prospect. Otherwise, the DW920K-2 has very good power control and features. Compared to the Makita models, the outdated NiCad batteries are another drawback.

The Makita DF010DSE 7.2 volt cordless screwdriver is another great little tool. It does not feel as durable as the Dewalt, but is therefore half the weight. You do get a lot less torque though, with 44 in-lbs it is almost half that of the Dewalt with 80 in-lbs. So essentially what you save in weight you lose in power. Like I said before, you have to know what you will use the tool for when determining if the lower power is a drawback for you. If you think that you will be content with a maximum of 80 in-lbs of torque for all your applications, then the Dewalt is the best choice for you. Remember that standard drills are capable of at least around 200 in-lbs of torque; and that’s on the low end of the market. If you already have a drill or plan on getting one, then the lightweight Makita DF010DSE cordless screwdriver is the way to go. Plus, the Makita lithium ion batteries are far superior to the Dewalt NiCad batteries. Another little downside to the Makita is its price, which is well above 100 dollars.

Then there is the Makita TD020DSEW 7.2 volt cordless impact screwdriver. This is an extremely simplified version on the DF010DSE, but with an impact motor. This tool has even more power at 177 in-lbs than the Dewalt thanks to its impact action. However, it is a one speed, on-off, transmission. This means that you cannot control the power of the tool as well as the other two screwdrivers. When you press the button the tool goes on full speed. This is obviously a drawback if you need finesse while fastening small screws. The upside to these simplifications is its reduced price, which is at least half the price of the Makita DF010DSE. It does come with the same lithium ion batteries, and is even a bit lighter.

I went for the Makita TD020DSEW 7.2 volt cordless impact screwdriver because of the great price. I wanted Makita quality and this tool delivers it at a bargain. The lack of speed control was a concern for me at first, but after a short time of use it doesn’t bother me at all anymore. I hope this information will give you some guidance on choosing the best cordless screwdriver for you. Don’t be fooled by biased cordless screwdriver reviews that claim to have the one and only best tool.

Don’t think that a cordless screwdriver review will give you the right purchasing advice. If you only search online for reviews in order to make up your mind about which is the best cordless screwdriver, you will likely end up with the wrong power tool. Everyone has their own personally opinions and requirements when it comes to cordless tools, but they probably don’t always apply to you. Not to mention all the junk that is written on websites these days that is written by people that have no qualification to make any type of judgment on the subject. The first thing you need to do when searching for reviews it to eliminate all this junk and only take to quality stuff into consideration.

When reading all the reviews on the web, you need to pay close attention to what features they value in the tool. Some people put a lot of importance on the price of the tool. So they may rate the Black and Decker PD600 higher than the Dewalt DW920k-2 because it only costs a third of the price. This may lead you to believe that the Black and Decker is the better overall cordless screwdriver, which it is not necessarily. The fact that the DW920k-2 is so much more expensive may turn some people off, but the reason for this is that it has much better quality components that the PD600. These obviously cost more to produce. For some people, it is unnecessary for the kind and amount of work that they will be using the power tools for. So they decide to view this attribute of the Dewalt as negative. The quality issue can also be view the other way. People that need a heavy duty tool for constant use will require better components and therefore see the cheap price of the Black and Decker PD600 as a negative.

The point here is that every cordless screwdriver review is written by people with varying need, and will therefore rate these power tools completely differently. My advice is definitely not to stop reading reviews, because being aware of different opinions about the same tool is valuable information. However, do not base your purchase decision on anyone else’s reviews. Take them for what they are, and make up you own opinion. Go to the store, look at all the different models in person, and then buy the best cordless screwdriver for your needs.

It is safe to assume that most households have a small selection of tools in their garage. However, most people are not properly equipped for all the little jobs and repairs that they will encounter over the years. A little power tools that everyone should have is a cordless screwdriver. Forget about busting your hands and stripping your screws by using this convenient little tool that is not much bigger than a regular screwdriver.

The most common question that people ask me is which one is the best cordless screwdriver for the money. Unfortunately there is not just one; it all depends on what your needs are. But for the most part, regular homeowners do not need to buy a model that is more than $50. Many people walk into a Home Depot and walk out with a Dewalt DW920K 7.2v cordless screwdriver, or a Makita. Just like with everything else out there, sales people try to sell clueless consumers far more expensive products than they need. Chances are, you only need a simple Black and Decker PD600 cordless screwdriver that cost a fraction of the Dewalt. At Amazon.com you can get it for 30 dollars instead of $80 for the Dewalt. That is a huge difference for a tool that you won’t need every single day.

I’m reviewing the Black and Decker model because I believe it to be the best consumer level cordless screwdriver on the market. There are other cheaper models available, but you will sacrifice much needed power as a result. The PD600 runs on a 6v NiCad battery which will run for at least 3 hours before recharging is necessary. It has two speed ranges so you can drill holes in high speed mode, and drive screws in the low speed setting. You can further control the speed with a 23 position clutch for easy finesse work. This tool can keep up with even the best cordless screwdrivers on the market; with a quick release bit mechanism, spindle lock for manual operation, and a 3 position handle. Be warned though that this tool does not match up to the superior build quality and reliability of the Dewalt DW920k cordless screwdriver. You will also not have quite the same amount of power as the 7.2v models. If you have some tough jobs to do, don’t expect this tool to hold up very long. It is specifically designed for light work such as small furniture assembly, and installing blinds and shelving.

You may also want to add other power tools to complement your cordless screwdriver. For more intensive hole drilling applications I would recommend a cordless drill. They basically have the same functionality of a cordless screwdriver but with more power. The downside is the additional weight. This is why it is a good idea to own both. Otherwise you could also get a cordless impact wrench, which is great for tightening screws and bolts. Although I highly recommend the Makita LXT 18v lithium ion battery line, you do not need to go for such expensive tools. Milwaukee or Skil offer pretty good combo kits that cost much less than Dewalt or Makita. If you can’t afford to buy all these tools at once, start off with the cordless screwdriver and then get a combo kit later.

Makita 18v batteries are the foundation of every Makita cordless power tool

There is no doubt that Makita make some of the best 18v cordless power tools on the market. There are many other manufacturers out there that offer the same products, but if you’re on the fence about which company to go with, this article will convince you to go for Makita 18v cordless power tools.

The backbone of their whole 18v product line is the Makita 18v battery line up, which are the best in the industry. The Makita LCT300W 18v Compact Lithium-Ion Cordless 3-Piece Combo Kit is a perfect example of the company’s commitment to quality and service. This kit is perfect for everyone, from beginner to pro users, who need tools for drilling, driving and fastening.

The Makita 1/2-Inch Driver-drill (model #BDF452HW) is a great tool that is equipped with a high powered motor capable of 450 in.lbs. of maximum torque and 285 in.lbs. of PTI torque. Its transmission is a two speed all metal design with a 0 to 450 RPM low speed setting, and a 0 to 1,500 RPM high speed setting, which gives the user many options for any type of job. You will definitely not find an 18v lithium ion battery-equipped cordless drill from companies such a Dewalt that can compete with this tool in price and quality.

Also part of the Makita LCT300W is the superb BTD142HW cordless impact driver. This tool weighs a mere 2.8 pounds. Despite its feather light weight, it can produce 1,280 in.lbs. of torque, 2,300 RPM, and 3,200 impacts per minute. Makita use their high quality metals and a special heat treatment process for the internal parts of the driver to ensure a long life of the tool. A similar Dewalt model is the Dewalt DC827KL 18v 1/4-inch Lithium Ion battery Impact Driver Kit with Nano Technology, which weighs more, and is way more expensive. It’s kind of a no-brainer.

The Makita LCT300W cordless power tool kit also includes a nice rechargeable flashlight ( model #BML185W) that features a xenon bulb. Of course, central to the success of the company are the Makita 18v batteries with LXT or compact lithium ion technology. With the kit you will receive two of these and a rapid Optimum charger that is capable of fully charging the battery in just 15 minutes. The LXT batteries have become are real success, and now come with most to the Makita 18v line-up. In case you were wondering what the deal is with lithium ion, they provide a considerable performance increase compared to normal NiCad models. Makita’s 18V Lithium-Ion batteries weigh an average of 40% less, they run much longer, and five-times lower self-discharge than any regular NiCad versions. What is most important to us is the fact that its life cycle is over twice as long as NiCad; at about 2000 cycles. We could go on and on about all the benefits, from shock absorbing mechanisms, to the 16 firm-holding contact terminals, to the built-in memory chip in the battery that communicates with the charger to ensure a perfect charge every time. Good charging is very important for the life of the battery, and many systems do not take care of this for you. In addition, you can get a convenient car charger for your Makita 18v batteries that works just like your cell phone charger.

To top it all off, you won’t have to worry about your cordless power tools breaking due to defects, because Makita offers a three year warranty on all models. Lithium ion Makita 18v batteries are covered by a one year warranty.

Why you should get a 12v or 18v battery or charger

Many power tool kits made by Makita are cordless, which mean that the tools run on batteries. This is a great advantage to the user because power cords often get in the way when doing a job. When using corded power tools the cords usually have to run across the entire job site, leaving the floor littered with cords which can be hazardous for the workers. Another downside to corded power tools is the fact that power cords will become damaged over time. If there is a tear in the insulation of the cord, there is a risk of electrical shock. Cables can also get in the way of machines or other sharp objects and become cut, putting people in the proximity of that machine in danger. It is without a doubt that cordless power tools operating on batteries are the best solution to these problems.

Types

There are several different kinds of Makita power tool batteries on the market right now. Also, there are different chargers available that must be compatible with the type of battery that you are using. The smallest and most common battery used by Makita in their smaller power tools is the 7.2v battery. This battery is rechargeable in about one hour, making it very convenient for any type of job. It can then easily be swapped out by a fresh battery once it is empty, and recharged again.

The 9.6v battery is also a popular size used by Makita. These are often installed in larger power tool models, but can also be charged in about the same amount of time as the 7.2v battery. This makes it a very good battery for tools that require larger batteries.
Some medium sized types of power tools are fitted with 12v batteries. A 12v battery does not hold its charge as long as a 14.4v or 18v battery, but is usually a lot less expensive. The advantage of the 18v battery is its superior power, which is needed for some applications. However, this power comes at the expense of convenience and recharge speed. The highest voltage offered my Makita for its power tools is the 24v battery. It is a much more complicated system which requires a forced air cooling system to keep the battery cool during operation and extend the life of the battery. It often features a system that monitors the usage and power of the unit. These are very expensive batteries that are only necessary on high end power tools.
